This is a good reflective vest with some nifty pouches to hold your id and insurance documents, but it doesn't fit. The vest itself is too long when you are sitting on your bike. The bottom pushes up and makes the top gap open which then beats your chest while you are riding. Plus it only comes in two sizes which are for men not women. To wear this vest comfortably I will have to have it tailored.
I had my seamstress sew Army lime- green reflective PT belts (2), over the silver reflective material, for much improved reflective and over-all visability. Makes a good product great!
I bought two of these vests because of the Navy's requirement for a reflective vest at night and some bases in the Hampton Roads area are requiring vests all the time. Both my wife and I ride so I got two. If you plan to wear this over a jacket and normally wear a L - XL then get the larger vest. I got the smaller one for the wife and it works well with her gear. No problems at any of the bases with this vest. I have tried the reflective vests that are sold in the Exchange and they are not motorcycle vests and blow up when riding. Spend a little extra to get a motorcycle vest. You may stand out from all the other bikes on the road but you won't get hastled by the MPs or MAAs.
The ICON MIL SPEC Vest is a great alternative to other reflective vests that are mandatory on some military installations. It has two sizes and colors. Both are extremely popular for Military personnel and provide easy access to IDs at Entry Control Points. The only "CON" is that when you do not ride with a full jacket, even the smaller size seems a bit large on my 160 lb 5' 7" frame.
Still the best Vest you can buy
I am very happy with the military spec icon vest. It fits very well and looks great. It definately blows the other types of reflective vests I've bought out of the water. I like the weight and fit of the material, so there's no straps or extra material flapping from the wind. I think it looks so good, it looks like part of the jacket.
Being a motorcyclist living in Scandinavia means a lot of "low light" driving. After having had several cheap vest torn apart I came across the ICON reflective vest. I've had it for a year now and not once have I regretted buying it. This is the first vest that won’t come apart in a day and won’t make you look like an idiot in a yellow parachute. Its a comfortable and tight fit (even at high speeds) over a complete riding outfit. Another bonus is that Danish police wear a similar design jacket (bright yellow) which may account for fact that I'm rarely overtaken any more or end up in potentially dangerous situations ;-)
Don't want to cirticize the MP's, but this product will definately help them wave you through the gate. It couldn't be brighter. The pockets on front are useless, and if you wear a Large or XL jacket GET THE 2XL. Great product, especially in inclement weather!
Needed the vest for entering military shooting base. Retired Law Enforcement. Met expectations.
Not correct sizes (2XL-4XL)
[...]The product was nicer than it appeared on the website! Excellent all around.
It complements my riding jacket. People actually think the vest is a part of the jacket.
The product is outstanding; exceeding expectations. I have to have a vest for riding my motorcycle on a military installation but I choose to wear it any time I ride. To improve the vest: the ID holder is impractical because at any military base the ID card has to be removed, no guard will just look and wave through so get rid of the ID card holder and add another pocket or at least less velcro so a personal patch can be added. The right chest pocket zipper opens up so far that I have dropped a thing or two. It's no big deal really but on a motorcycle it requires a little effort to pick up after myself. Overall the product is great and to tell you something else, I have not seen anything else even come close to being as good as this. Oh yeah, I ride a Harley, can you make a leather one? I'd buy it instantly as would all of my friends! Let me know... I let you know... [...]
Since we HAVE to wear reflective gear on the base...this is the best thing going. It fits well enough to where it doesn't flap around and drive you crazy. It is bright, but I guess that is the point. I haven't been harassed on base since wearing it.
*Very reasonable price, adequate construction.
*No significant abrasion resistance and no armor.
*Not suitable for warm weather wear over mesh, but I use mine over leather thru the winter.
*The collar design doesn't chafe and works well with the Mandarin style collars found on most "sport" style jackets.
* Could use even more retro-reflective material, but what's there works well.
*Ride safe!
* Pseudo-military styling a little too wanna-be Top Gun for me- when I was in the Marines the last thing I wanted to wear on liberty was something GI-looking.
* Front ID holder and cigarette pocket easily removable with a seam ripper and five minutes work.
* Needs more usable pockets, maybe like an aircrew vest or Spec Ops LBE, or one of those stylin' Safari jackets all "REAL" foreign correspondents wear on CNN.
* Rear pocket useful for hats, CDs, spare gloves, a paperback etc when you don't want to drag a backpack or tankbag along; not large enough for rain gear though.
*Interior pockets also small- usable for smokes etc but not much else (a Saint Christopher's medal is sewn into one of them!)
* Sizing runs small, assuming you intend to use it over a real bike jacket. Regular size would be suitable for your typical 150lb GI with an athletic build. Large fits up to around 200, but if you're much more than that or have a few miles on ya you may need let out the sides a bit.
