I bought these to allow me to talk to my wife, while we ride. They work great @ highway speed. The VOX is a great feature, but is active during acceleration. Even with the sensitivity turned down. I recommend these.

HJC-FRS review
By Okie riderVerified Reviewer from Tulsa, OK on 8/28/2007
Pros:
Lightweight, Price, Versatile
Cons:
Clicks and pops, PTT wire
Best Uses:
Off-Road, Street Riding
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I chose this product based on price and availability. Not for those with sensitive ears/hearing. Must be able to tolerate the click and pop sounds in your ears when you transmit. I suppose you get what you pay for... But not a bad product, easy install, and it works. Also picks up interference from other radio systems occasionally (460 band).

We are really enjoying the use of our new 'toy' - the Chatterbox. It is so nice to be able to talk to our 'next door rider'. We just love these.

Cons:
Short battery life

It's nice to be contact with other riders in the group and my rider. The VOX is sensitive with my open face helmet, especially at highway speeds.

I would buy this product again
By elkmanVerified Purchaser from Springfield Oregon on 7/6/2007
Pros:
Easy To Use
Best Uses:
Long Rides
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Went on a 2500 mile trip. My wife and I had our own motorcycles. Our communications were great. Using the button on the unit itself worked better rather than the one that is put on the handle bars. It had a lot of static and connection was loose.

Good, but VOX doesn't work
By Penny Lover from Minnesota on 6/19/2007
Pros:
Easy To Use, Lightweight
Best Uses:
Long Rides
Bottom Line:

Light weight on the helmet. Good with the button communicator, but VOX doesn't work at all with wind and bike noise. Good for long distance trips.

Can you hear me now? [over....]
By shardy from Atlanta, Ga on 5/29/2007
Pros:
Lightweight
Cons:
Difficult To Use
Best Uses:
Long Rides, Off-Road
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Experience/History = 1 ride, 6hrs use of the Chatterbox. Overall I like the product.

One challenge is adjusting the squelch correctly. Too far in the wrong direction seems to result in the VOX picking up the dirtbike's engine noise and not your voice. Too far in the other direction tends to require you to yell at VOX. The other thing is that VOX seemed a little slow to engage the mic, so in other words, if you were to say "Rider down, Rider down!", the VOX would only transmitt the 2nd ...'rider down' b/c it was busy engaging the VOX during the first part of your message.

There is a 'sweet' spot on the squelch and settings. As we progressed through the day, we were able to obtain better results via fine tuning towards that spot.

There is also a PTT (Push to talk) feature that we have not tried yet.

Works very well while cruising at 55mph or slower. A little harder to hear at faster speeds but still works nice. Very light weight to wear unit on helmet.

cheap and easy way to communicate
By Mike from Little Canada, MN on 8/24/2006
Pros:
Clear communication, Relatively cheap

Provides a relatively cheap and easy way to communicate with other riders. My wife and I have used these for a number of years and they have worked out nicely. Took them to Europe last year without problems. Clear communication up to 40 miles per hour. If you don't require clear communication at any speed, these won't work. But if you require clear communication when coming into a town or for emergency situations, the HRC-FRS will provide a good value.
